French Onion Soup

You can never resist the taste of this onion soup.

Preparation time: 30 minutes

Cooking time: 4-5 hours

Total time: 5 hours, 30 minutes

Servings: 6

Ingredients:

3 large yellow onions, peeled, thinly sliced

3 tbsp. butter

4 tsp. brown sugar

4 pounds ounces beef broth, reduced-sodium, homemade

1 tsp. thyme, fresh or dried

4 tsp. minced garlic

1 whole bay leaf

4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

6 slices French bread

2 medium shredded Swiss cheese

2 medium shredded parmesan cheese

Directions:

1. Add the butter, onions and brown sugar to a medium skillet over a medium-high heat, sauté until the onions become caramelized and soft.

2. In a large or 4-qt. crock pot, add cooked onions, reduced-sodium beef broth, thyme, minced garlic bay leaf and sauce, cook, covered on low heat for about 4 to 5 hours.

3. Add soup to bowls that are oven proof, top with 2 French bread slices, add Parmesan and Swiss cheese over the bread, and then place bowls containing soup on a cooking sheet, broil for about 2 minutes, or until cheese gets melted, serve instantly.
